Abstract
A study and an analysis of serum amylase (modified Somogyi method) were made in a control group of 65 cases and a series of 60 patients admitted with the diagnosis of mumps. The avg. of the control group was 56.4 mg./lOO ml., compared with 502 mg. in the mumps group. Elevated amylase levels were found in 95% of the cases of epidemic parotitis. This test was of practical value in a group of mumps (parotitis) cases when there was a problem of differential diagnosis. In exceptional instances, results might be capricious and then one must be guided by the clinical pattern. Keywords
