Abstract
The battle between viruses and their hosts is beautiful in its complexity. The interplay between viral proteins and the immune system has taught researchers much about not just the virus, but also the molecular mechanisms underlying the immune response. With additional evasion strategies constantly being described, this avenue of research is still rich with potential discoveries. In this review, we examine a number of proteins encoded by Kaposi's sarcoma herpesvirus (HHV-8) and detail how they aid the virus in escape from immune system elimination. We include, where possible, examples from other homologous viral systems. Keywords
