Abstract
Summary: A total of fifty blood meal samples were prepared; twenty‐five by the incorporation of calcium oxide in the fresh blood at a ratio of 1:8 and the remaining samples without adding calcium oxide. the most probable number of coliforms and Escherichia coli were recorded to be 3 × 102 and 2.3 × 102 g−1 respectively in the untreated samples, whereas calcium oxide treated samples did not reveal the presence of coliforms. of the eleven E. coli isolates, five serogroups (O79, O30, O25, O17 and O11) were identified. the significance of the isolates from the view‐point of human and livestock health have been discussed. Keywords
