Abstract
The crystal structure of 9‐methyladenine has been determined with limited x‐ray diffraction data. The final R factor is 0.091 with atomic standard deviations of about 0.006 Å. The x‐ray determination confirms the proposed structure based on polarized absorption measurements. We conclude that the first ultraviolet transition for 9‐methyladenine is short axis (C4–C5) polarized. Keywords
