Abstract
When iron salts were added to "Purified" medium (Long''s synthetic medium, prepared from purified reagents) the yield of tubercle bacilli (H 37) was more than doubled, especially when Cu, Mn or pyroantimonate ions were added along with the Fe. The medium prepared from "C.P." reagents did not respond in this manner. The non-ferrous catalysts, in the absence of Fe, did not exert a marked effect: Cu ions slightly retarded, Mn and pyroantimonate ions slightly accelerated growths. The growth history of the "mother" cultures had a slight quantitative effect on these results; it also controlled the pH and early appearance of growths. Di-phenylamine was decisive in its inhibiting action in all of the media used. This publication has 1 reference indexed in Scilit:
