Synthesis of Peraceto-β-D-Glycosyl Fluorides Using Zinc Fluoride

Abstract
A new method to prepare O-protected β-D-glycosyl fluorides by reacting α-D-glycosyl bromides with ZnF2 or ZnF2/2,2′-bipyridine combinations in acetonitrile is described. The addition of 2,2′-bipyridine to the halide exchange reaction increases product yields, but 2,2′-bipyridine does not appreciably accelerate the reaction rate nor increase the solubility of ZnF2 in CH3CN.
