Abstract
Boric acid added to nutrient agar used in obtaining counts of microorganisms from soil dilutions effectively suppressed the growth of bacteria, but favored the max. development of fungal colonies. The inhibitory effect on bacteria is not one of pH control and the chemical may be added to the medium before sterilization. Approx. 3 gms. of boric acid per litre of medium was a satisfactory conc.
