This report from Michigan documents the first occurrence of something that people in the antibiotic resistance field have been looking for and dreading for many years: a clinical isolate of Staphylococcus aureus expressing high-level vancomycin resistance (MIC > 128 microcg/mL) due to the vanA gene.
