Abstract
A mechanical device has been constructed for the automatic winding of quartz spirals with any desired pitch. The resultant spirals are compact, accurate and uniform, and are produced with a minimum of personal attention. A study was made of the relationship between the sensitivity and the diameter of the fibre employed. The machine itself is inexpensive and involves no complicated parts. About 50 successful spirals have been prepared in the manner recorded.
