Abstract
New material from a small paromomyid found at Palette (Lower Eocene, France) comprises a muzzle and a mandible, each with its anterior incisor. The dental formula is .**GRAPHIC**. The anterior upper incisor is trilobate, with less well formed lobes than in Phenacolemur fuscus and P. lapparenti [which are both included in the new genus]; this species is new and more primitive. The very large and high crowned lower incisor shows these related species to differ from Phenacolemur, Ignacius and Elwynella. They are referred to ARCIUS rougieri gen. et sp. nov. Similarity of the lower incisor with that of soricids, implantation of the incisors and the development of the terminal cusps on the large upper incisor in the Arcius lineage suggest an insectivorous specialization.
