Continuing Education and Training Through Competence‐Based Vocational Qualifications

Abstract
The National Council for Vocational Qualifications has been established to reform and rationalize the United Kingdom's system of vocational qualifications This is being achieved by introducing National Vocational Qualifications which are competence‐based and employment‐led within a national framework. The changes which the National Council are bringing about will promote greater access and flexibility in education and training and will particularly facilitate adult and continuing learning. Educators and trainers will need to take on new roles and develop new patterns of provision, with consequent staff and institutional development implications.
