Abstract
Endor measurements are reported for the thulium nuclear hyperfine structure in the Gamma 7 ground state of Tm2+ in SrF2 and BaF2 and for the fluorine hyperfine structure in SrF2. Paramagnetic resonance has been measured in the optically populated excited Gamma 7' state in SrF2 by conventional detection methods and also by detecting resonance induced changes in the intensity of the Zeeman components of the Gamma 7' to Gamma 7 fluorescence at 1.1 mu m. In the case of SrF2 the endor measurements on the Gamma 7 state suggest that distortion of the lattice at the Tm2+ site occurs. Keywords
