Abstract
Inbred Buffalo strain male and female rats, 4, 12, 24 and 52 weeks of age, were injected sub-cutaneously with carbon tetrachloride for 12 weeks. Some of the animals developed chronic thyroidltis as well as cirrhosis of the liver. Thyroiditis was observed in 6 of 11 sixteen-week-old female, 1 of 14 sixteen-week-old male and 4 of 11 sixty-four-week-old female rats. Thyroiditis was not present in 24- or 36-week-old male or female rats or in 64-week-old male rats given carbon tetrachloride. Control animals of the same ages did not have thyroiditis. This publication has 1 reference indexed in Scilit:
