Abstract
To the Editor: The report of Feely et al. (March 19 issue)1 stating that cimetidine reduces hepatic blood flow is of considerable importance. In pilot studies of this hypothesis conducted more than a year ago, I could not find a consistent effect of cimetidine on blood flow in the hepatic or mesenteric arteries or the portal vein in dogs anesthetized with pentobarbital. Blood flows were measured with electromagnetic flow probes for 30 minutes before administration of intravenous cimetidine (5 mg per kilogram of body weight) and 90 minutes afterward. One dog actually had a 25 per cent increase in mesenteric . . .Keywords
