Abstract
One thousand unselected urine specimens from hospitalized patients have been tested for the presence of blood by means of microscopic examination, Occultest, and a new reagent strip, Hemastix. The authors found close correlation among the three methods, with the major discrepancies occurring in urines which gave positive chemical tests but were negative microscopically. It is the opinion of the authors that the new reagent strip test is rapid, easily performed, and is a valuable supplement to microscopy in the detection of hematuria. Keywords
