Educational Achievement of Institutionalized Emotionally Disturbed Children

Abstract
This paper presents an analysis of the measured educational achievements of the forty-eight children comprising the school population of a state mental hospital. Academic achievement was measured with the California Achievement Test, and results are Interpreted In terms of chronological and mental ages. Some serial measurement achievement data are presented for children who have been In the educational program for periods varying from less than one year to more than twenty months. The results Indicate that even when mental age Is used as a base for determining achievement expectations, the achievement retardation for nil subjects ranges from seven to nineteen months.
