Abstract
The conventional measure of the rate of ethanol metabolism (milligrams of ethanol/kiligrams of body wt per hour) can be considerably biased by variations in the relative amount of adipose tissue in the person or group under study. It is important to correct for or avoid this bias when comparing groups with appreciably different amounts of adipose tissue. Suggestions for correction of this bias were made. In healthy subjects use of .beta., the blood ethanol disappearance rate, will eliminate most of the bias.
