On the problem of truncation error

Abstract
It is argued that a more systematic study of truncation error is highly desirable. A number of integrations are commuted from the same partial differential equation using a variety of discretization schema. In particular, the difficulty of advecting sharp gradients of a conservative quantity is emphasized.Keywords
