Research on the familial occurrence of leftside displacement of the abomasum in cattle

Abstract
Analysis of the male ancestry of 104 German Friesian cows with left-side displacement of the abomasum and of 104 comparable control cows revealed that the former were significantly more closely related to each other than the latter. It is concluded that there is a genetically linked predisposition for this condition, which increases with the degree of relationship. Other factors may play a role in the pathogenesis.
