Abstract
Presentation of Case First admission. A thirty-seven-year-old woman was admitted to the hospital because of edema.She had been well until five weeks previously, when a "pressing" sensation developed in the lumbar region and persisted for half an hour. Dysuria occurred for a week thereafter. During the four weeks before entry she had progressive edema of the ankles. Three weeks before admission a physician prescribed chlorothiazide, but it was without benefit. During the week before entry the abdomen became distended, and periorbital edema developed.There was no history of the passage of dark urine, pyuria, hematuria, urinary frequency, fever or . . .
