Abstract
The formation of self-help groups by relatives of the mentally ill, a recent development in the mental health field, is largely a reaction against the short shrift these families have often received from helping professionals in the past The results of a survey of seventyone such groups are presented here, along with a discussion of possible implications for service delivery. Future relationships between consumers and health professionals are also discussed. Keywords
