Abstract
A simple, easily available method can simultaneously protect against heat loss, drying and bacterial contamination in newly born infants with skin defects. The method applies to infants with omphalocele, gastroschisis, meningomyelocele, epidermolysis bullosa congenita letalis, severe hydrops with skin tears and the harlequin fetus among others. Typically in the past, the child with one of these defects was packed in saline-soaked gauze in an effort to prevent drying.
