Abstract
Stability conditions of the Peierls state in a one‐dimensional system with impurities is investigated. Calculations are performed in a single‐impurity approximation and two cases are considered: an impurity built in the chain and the system with solitons. In the first case the total energy of the system as a function of the atomic potential and the concentration of impurities is presented. In the case of solitons also the total energy is calculated and it is shown that for a few per cent con‐ centration of solitons the distorted phase is unstable. For polyacetylene the critical concentration of solitons is estimated to yc ≈︁ 5%.
