Abstract
One double-reversal and two Latin square design feeding trials were used to compare corn and 3 varieties of sorghum as silage crops for milking dairy dows. The average yield per acre in tons for each crop was as follows: Corn, 10.5; Sart sorghum, 19.2; Tracy sorghum, 20.4; and Texas seeded ribbon sorghum, 28.0. Cows produced more milk and gained more weight each year on corn silage than on either variety of sorghum. These differences were highly significant (P<0.01). Tracy sorghum imparted a stronger silage flavor to milk than the other types of silage. Keywords
