Abstract
The authors have made spectrophotographic measurements for high-density magnesium plasmas generated by an electromagnetically driven shock tube (T tube). Several spectral lines are observed for the first time and identified; the energy values of the 3p4p 1P1 and 3P0,1,2 non-autoionising levels and of the 3p3d 1F3 degrees , 3P2 degrees and 3F4 degrees autoionising levels are determined. The term series assigned to 3pnd 1D degrees , 3pnd 1F degrees and 3pnp 3P in the previous ejected-electron spectrum measurements are reassigned to 3pnp 1P, 3pnd 1D degrees and 3pnd 3D degrees , respectively. The energy value of 3p3d 1P1 degrees determined previously by VUV absorption measurements is confirmed by the observation of the 3s3d 1D2-3p3d 1P1 degrees transition. The lambda 3009 AA line of the 3s3p 1P1 degrees -3p2 1S0 transition, which was identified previously by two-step selective excitation with a tunable laser, is observed as a broad emission. Keywords
