Abstract
A systematic, prospective investigation was made of maternal serum AFP [alpha fetoprotein] levels in 7158 unselected pregnant women during their calculated 14th-20th wk post LMP [last menstrual period], together with their eventual pregnancy outcomes. The results indicate that clinically relevant information may be obtained about various deviations from regular pregnancy development by means of aberrant AFP values in maternal serum. Patients with repeatedly abnormal AFP values may be selected for further more sophisticated and specific examinations to disclose a possible major fetal maldevelopment, or reveal an otherwise aberrant state of pregnancy. This publication has 5 references indexed in Scilit:
