To the Editor: Contrary to their conclusion that "children who acquire CMV [cytomegalovirus] in a day-care center frequently transmit the virus to their mothers," Pass et al. (May 29 issue)1 failed to establish that CMV acquired in day-care centers was the source of CMV infections in the children or that these strains were transmitted to their mothers. They only reported a correlation between seroconversion in susceptible parents and CMV excretion by their children. Analyzing the CMV genomes during a two-year prospective study of children attending a single day-care center, we observed that, among 34 children with viruria, at least 8 . . .Keywords
