Abstract
In a study of eight patients with thyroid nodules, preoperative angiographic differentiation was correctly made in each case as shown by subsequent histologic confirmation. The criteria for malignancy are (1) increased vascularity, (2) irregular contrast loading, (3) presence of "tumor" vessels, (4) vascular supply from ascending or superficial cervical arteries, and (5) ragged periph eral contour of gland. These initial studies suggest that angiography can make a distinction in many cases. Whether this technique will ever be sufficiently reliable to make definitive decisions remains to be de termined. Keywords
