Rapid Selection of Strains of Digitalis lanata EHRH. with High Digoxin Content1

Abstract
Strains of Digitalis lanata with an increased digoxin content have been selected by using a high–sample–capacity radioimmunoassay specific for digoxin and related glycosides. After two selection steps, the average digoxin content of the plants could be raised 2.3–fold and several strains, with an average leaf concentration of 0.6 % digoxin, have been isolated. Some individual plants were found which contained 0.9–1 % of digoxin in the leaves.
