Abstract
The prevention of disabling chronic diseases in elderly individuals is a major clinical and public health goal. Dementia, especially Alzheimer disease (AD), is a prevalent chronic disease currently affecting more than 5 million people in the United States1 and is a leading cause of age-related disability and long-term care placement.1-4 The herbal product Ginkgo biloba is prescribed in some areas of the world for preservation of memory; however, there are no medications approved for primary prevention of dementia. In the United States, worldwide sales of G biloba exceed $249 million annually.5Keywords
