Abstract
11 young women and 1 boy, all with high antistreptolysin titers of 250-2,500 units and with recent or subsiding erythema nodosum (EN) on both legs, were given hemolytic streptococcus nucleoprotein fraction C 19 K intracut. on the volar surface of the forearm; some were also given nucleoprotein of hemolytic staphylococcus, pneumococcus I, Pfeiffer bacillus or M. catarrhalis. All doses were standardized to contain 0.001 mgm. N. The inj. was followed regularly by an intense local inflammatory reaction. In half it was followed by recrudescence of EN in areas recently affected; this capacity of the involved extremities to develop EN persisted only a few wks. Keywords
