Transvestism and Pruritus Perinei

Abstract
A 41-year-old male trans-vestite experienced pruritus perinei which exacerbated during his wife''s pregnancies and under other conditions related to pregnancy and birth fantasies. The pruritus disappeared when the transvestite impulses were gratified. In light of other studies concerned with pruritus ani et scroti this study supports the hypotheses that this syndrome may psychogenically involve a wish in the male to be impregnated and give birth anally. In addition it appears that this may also be etiologically significant in tranvestism where the wearing of female clothes therefore involves the acting out of the fantasy of being a woman in order to procreate.
