Abstract
It is shown that for a peculiar arrangement of the plates of a Solc filter it is possible to get exactly the same spectral curve as for a Lyot-Ohman filter. Possible applications include improvements of the transparency of already existing Lyot filters and the design of more efficient prefilters. As a particular case it is found that a 3 plates Solc filter can be made identical to a 2 stages Lyot filter and thus is an alternative solution to the Evans split element; but it has the advantage of achromatism since no lambda /2 or lambda /4 plates are involved in its construction. Wide field properties of both devices are also investigated. Keywords
