Abstract
The hypothetical pathogenesis suggested by Kurland and Freedberg for the hypertension accompanying Cushing''s syndrome, namely, that the elevated blood pressure is due to an increased response to endogenous norepinephrine induced by excessive adrenocortical substances, was tested experimentally. Blood pressure responses of 2 patients with Cushing s syndrome when intravenous Benodaine was given were studied. Since no depressor effect was noted, it is concluded that the hypertension of Cushing''s syndrome is not due to norepinephrine and that the hypothesis under scrutiny is invalid. Keywords
