Abstract
A pretest was given to 62 subjects on 15 Chinese-English equivalents. From these, three groups of 10 each exactly equated on trials to learn, heard while asleep the following, respectively: 1Facilitation group, 25 Chinese-English pairs, 15 repetitions; 2Control group, Strauss waltzes for an equivalent period; 3. Interference group, same 25 Chinese words, paired with same English words, randomly mismatched. Next morning, all three groups learned the facilitation group''s list to one correct repetition. The mean number of trials to learn the list to this criterion were as follows: group 1, 5.6; group 2, 7.7; group 3, 11.1. All the means differed significantly from each other.Keywords
