Abstract
Mentally and emotionally "normal" individuals show a normal structure of the capillaries of the fingernail fold. Schizophrenics show an immature formation of the capillaries. The manic-depressives have twisted, abnormal capillaries. Schizophrenics with mainly paranoid or hallucinatory symptoms show either a mixture of both features, or normal capillaries, or the picture of the manic-depressive group. The structure of the capillaries is a constitutional feature, and is not influenced by the evolution of the psychosis. It does not change during the remissions and is independent of the effect of electric shock treatment. Keywords
