Fibrous Dysplasia of the Skull

Abstract
Five cases of fibrous dysplasia of the skull are descr. The etiology is unknown and there is no treatment other than surgery for exophthalmos and compression of cranial nerves. Differential diagnosis between localized fibrous dysplasia and bony changes produced by a meningioma may be difficult. Age of onset is a useful differential criterion. Fibrous dysplasia is a disease of childhood and adolescence while meningiomas usually occur in adults.
