Synthesis, Magnetic Measurements and Spectroscopic Studies of Copper(I) and Copper(II) Complexes of Thiosemicarbazones Derived from Aromatic Aldehydes and Ketones

Abstract
Copper(I) and copper(II) complexes of the thiosemicarbazone derivatives of p-anisaldehyde (ATSZH), p-tolualdehyde (TTSZH), vanillin (VTSZH) and fluorenone (FTSZH) have been prepared and characterized by elemental analysis; IR, Raman and electronic spectral studies; and magnetic measurements. Changes in selected vibrational absorptions of the ligands upon coordination are discussed. Based on magnetic and spectroscopic data, the structures for the complexes are proposed as follows: polymeric for [Cu(TTSZ)]n, [Cu(ATSZ)]n and [Cu(VTSZ)]n·nH2O and ligand bridged binuclear for [Cu(VTSZ)Cl]2·H2O, [Cu(VTSZ)(CH3COO)]2, [Cu(FTSZ)2]2·2H2O, and [Cu(FTSZ)Cl]2·2H2O.
