Abstract
The goal of materials science in the pharmaceutical industry is to develop specifications which enable product to be manufactured so that lot failure would never take place. At the present time, all raw materials (either active drugs, excipients, or formulated products) are fully characterized as to their chemical characteristics, but insufficient attention has been paid to physical characterization. A wide range of methods are available for physical testing (primarily bulk and particulate properties), and these will be discussed and illustratedKeywords
