Abstract
Two species have been confused under the name of Anopheles subpictus Grassi in Malaya. The common one, found mainly inland, is considered to be A. indefinitus Ludlow of which A. subpictus malayensis Hacker is a synonym. The less common one, found on the coast, is considered to be A. subpictus Grassi. The differences between these species, their nomenclature, their probable distribution outside Malaya and their relation to disease, are discussed.
