Abstract
The distribution of radical ions of hydrocarbon molecules in a magnetized plasma measured by a newly developed ion cyclotron resonance mass spectrometer (ICRMS). The incorporation of differential pumping enables a collision free analysis to be carried out. In addition, sufficient resonance time to obtain good mass resolution (MI Delta M=16-30) is realized, employing long RF electrodes along the magnetic field. The magnetized plasma is generated by a DC discharge in an admixture of methane and argon gases, with the resultant yields of several hydrocarbon radical ions being presented. Keywords
