Paradoxical effect of an orally ingested histamine analogue on capillaries and arteriovenous anastomoses of the human digit

Abstract
The effect on the circulation of an orally ingested histamine analogue was studied in nine human subjects, and of subcutaneously administered histamine phosphate in four human subjects. In the digit, a paradoxical effect was observed consisting of capillary and venular dilatation and constriction of arteriovenous anastomoses. The latter effect was probably a reflex response to heat loss caused by the generalized dermal capillary dilatation which was the direct effect of the drug. Submitted on March 18, 1959
