Abstract
The optical absorbance of high-purity CuCl has been investigated between 0.3 and 2.0 μm under pressures ranging from 19 to 115 kbar. The results show that the behavior of CuCl under pressure depends sensitively on the sample age, light exposure, pressure inhomogeneity, and the sample preparation technique. The results are also discussed together with the poorly reproducible diamagnetic anomaly previously observed in CuCl.Keywords
