Abstract
New and interesting species of Rhodophyceae from the Eastern Mediterranean Sea. — A description is given of four newly found species of Rhodophyceae from the Eastern Mediterranean Sea. The specimens were collected during the course of a 1967 N.A.T.O. Oceanographic Expedition in the Eastern Mediterranean Sea with the aid of diving technique. The specimens-typus are deposited with Herbarium of Botanical Institut of Trieste. The newly found species are the following: Halymenia cavernicola G. Giaccone, Phyllophora aegei G. Giaccone, Ceramium hellenicum G. Giaccone, Centroceras pignattii G. Giaccone. A short description of three interesting Corallinaceae (Lithophyllum byssoides Fosl. f. byssoides, L. tortuosum Fosl. f. cristata Fosl., Tenarea undulosa Bory) is also given. Data are added on the coralligenous communities examined in two «relevés» at high and low depths. Dichotomous and synoptical keys to the new species are suggested: Gen. Halymenia Ag. Gen. Phyllophora Grev. Section Ceramium of the Ceramiaceae familyKeywords
