Abstract
General displacement and work bounds are derived for the small-deflection quasi-static deformation of a body composed of a material which exhibits both elastic and inelastic strains. The bounds are described in terms of functional properties of the constitutive relationships. The results are specialized to an elastic/perfectly plastic and nonlinear viscous material and known results are recovered. Special emphasis is given to problems associated with the analysis of creep deformation of metallic structures. Keywords
