The Effect of Nifedipine on Cystoscopy-Induced Autonomic Hyperreflexia in Patients with High Spinal Cord Injuries

Abstract
We evaluated the ability of the calcium channel blocker nifedipine to control autonomic hyperreflexia during cytoscopy in 7 patients with cervical spinal cord injuries. Nifedipine (10 mg.) alleviated autonomic hyperreflexia when given sublingually during cystoscopy and prevented autonomic hyperreflexia when given orally 30 minutes before cystoscopy. No adverse drug effects were observed.
