Herpes Zoster Oticus with Pontine Lesion: Segmental Brain-Stem Encephalitis

Abstract
In 1907 Ramsay Hunt reported the clinical syndrome of herpes zoster oticus (HZO), a lower-motor-neuron type of facial paralysis, otalgia, and auricular vesicles [1], which bears his name. Since that time, a number of variations on the classic triad have been described. We report a patient with HZO who manifested ipsilateral hemiparesis and ipsilateral loss of touch, which were accompanied by a lesion in the contralateral pons that was evident on an MRI scan.
