The stomachs of five Emydocephalus annulatus Krefft, and two Emydocephalus ijimae Stejneger, have been found to contain fish eggs only. The eggs being preyed upon are demersal and can be traced to bottom—dwelling inshore species of at least two families, Gobiidae and Blenniidae. In conjunction with the diet of fish eggs, the dentition of Emydocephalus is greatly reduced. The dentary and palatine bones are toothless and the maxilla bears no teeth other than fangs. The pterygoid has many very small teeth.
