Abstract
The authors show how the bulk band conductivity and density of states of an electron gas in a general two-dimensional periodic potential and magnetic field can be calculated using the recursive Green-function method. Computational efficiency is maximized by using the gauge symmetry of the problem. As an example they show the conductivity and density of states for a superlattice displaying the recursive Hofstader's-butterfly spectrum. Keywords
