Ergotamine Poisoning Producing Renal Arterial Spasm

Abstract
ALTHOUGH ergotamine poisoning is usually due to overdosage, toxic reactions may result from an innate sensitivity to small doses. In the following case of such sensitivity to ergotamine tartrate, renal-artery spasm was documented by arteriography.Case ReportA 40-year-old woman entered Duke Hospital on November 18, 1969, with cluster headaches and a 10-year history of intermittent hypertension.Physical examination revealed a thin woman with a blood pressure of 150/100 and a pulse of 106, with a regular rate.
